Graduation Speech by President

The Speech of Dr. Byeongchea, Seo, the President of Melvin University during Graduation Ceremony year 2021 on 15th December 2021

Let me begin by offering my heartfelt congratulations to the students who are graduating from Melvin University, today. On behalf of our guest of honor, Vice-President, Deans, and all other faculty members and staff, congratulations on your graduation, today. I would also like to express our deepest gratitude to the family members and others around you who have loyally supported you as you worked toward this, your graduation day. This is a historic moment as this become our first graduation ceremony.

Today, I would like to look back to the time I entered Kenya in 3rd December 2020. It is exactly one year ago. My dream back then was rather vague notion of deciphering the construction of 3 lecture classes and a chapel. At that time, I was faced with challenges of raising significant funds towards these buildings. The challenges slowed down momentum for achieving the constructions. I, however, was more interested in discovering a new world of learning that was broader and deeper than the one right before my eyes. Thanks to God. We raised the funds, had the buildings completed and conducted inauguration by 14th August 2021. The accomplishments have since pushed us to new heights of possibility faith like never before.

Dear graduates, we advertised a short course on Bible Training for Church Leaders in the community. On 27th September 2021, we enrolled you as the first student. Our key aspiration was to help you develop ideas about the kind of learning you aspire to attain and your passions in field of work you already do. We have since taken you through the short course curriculum and now present you as graduates. Beyond this event, we are encouraging you to consider putting in practice all the knowledge and skills you have acquired to help you meet your life goals.

Besides, Melvin University is in the process of seeking limited chance of scholarships to award students enrolled for a 2 and one semester on Diploma in Theology from January 2022. If we succeed in securing these scholarships, deserving applicants will find the right assistance to benefit their future. Priority will be given to student already admitted and learning at the university at that time. Interested students are encouraged to apply for admission to the said course.

Apart from imparting knowledge, personal mentoring and experiential learning, Melvin University is keen on putting in place government public health measures including constructing temporary cafeteria with canteen and installing fire extinguishers to ensure the safety of our students, staff and the entire institution. We are all required to adhere to these safety measures as the primary responsibility of ensuring a safe campus lies with each one of us.

Once again, let me offer my sincere congratulations to each and every one of you who is graduating today. For, I believe that the essence of our first graduation is never lost and that those dreams have come true to a certain extent.
